The Town / experiment-rooms
Avatar
Narrator BOT 22-Nov-24 04:13 PM
The walls crumbled, weeping with junk and dust, perhaps mourning the abandonment these corridors and rooms faced. Yet something ominous still lingered - maybe it was the abandoned tools, or dead specimens, or the ever present sensation of being watched?..

“AHHHH! AHHH!” Maggie screamed as she looked at the room around her, dropping her empty coffee cup onto the ground as cowered. “This is bad, this is bad. Where are we?”

Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 04:38 PM
Paco very quickly froze up as he looked around the room around, his eyes quickly darting around the decrepit sight of it all. The young scientist felt his chest tighten up and his breath shorten up as he glanced at the abandoned tools and crumbled walls before his eyes stopped at one of the dead specimens. In that moment he felt the room envelop and close around him, along with the sense of something, or someone, looming over behind their head. "AAAAAAAAAAAH! THE FUCK IS ALL THIS?! THE FUCK IS THAT?!" Paco finally snapped and screamed after a deep, sharp breath forced them back to their senses.

Their screams seemed to linger in the air for a moment too long, before their echoes faded into the foggy air.

Maggie looked at Paco and slapped him (gently!). “Paco! Focus! We need to focus! AH!” She screamed into her jacket.
Avatar
Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 05:21 PM
"RIGHT! Right! Okay! Okeh!" Paco said as he recovered from the gentle (thank you!) slap and took in deep breaths, and then got himself a brief coughing fit from how dank and dusty this place is. "We're scientists! We can definitely get out of here... wherever here is??? L-Lets try fanning out a bit and get whatever seems useful... or contextual to what this is????" Paco suggested as he looked around to see what kind of tools were here... and what kind of experiment room the two of them are even in.

Lt. Maggie Roode | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 05:23 PM
“Right yes! And I’m sure this is just a bad dream!” She said as she took the same as Paco looking around for anything, she started tapping on the walls. Trying to see if they made the same noise as the ones on 777. “Maybe this is like, fake!”

Their commbadges stayed quiet despite the outside call, leaving the trapped wanderers blissfully unaware of it.

Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 05:36 PM
"Yeah! Maybe this is a dream and none of this is real! So, therefore, everything's a simulation!" This was not Paco being mean, this was Paco actually genuinely suggesting that might be the case knowing the kinds of shenanigans Starfleet officers get themselves into in a weekly basis. Could this be the works of some other creature observing them, and so decided to put him and Maggie here as part of some sick experiment? They would never know. *"Are the doors locked? Imma check if the doors locked. If it's locked, I'm actually going to freak out." *Paco said as he attempted to open the nearest door and/or door-like thing here.

Unfortunately, there were no tools available here - the trays where those would usually rest in, were empty, filled with jars of yellowish-brown fluid instead. Something floated in them, fleshy but hard to discern, suspended in the alcoholic mixture. Some of the bigger jars were full of... what seemed to be eyes, carefully watching the two scientists as they flitted around like a pair of startled birds. As for the door - it creaked open, ever so slightly shaking in it's wooden frame.

Lt. Maggie Roode | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 05:42 PM
Maggie looked at the jars with a hum. “Is…is that booze?” She said before noticing the eyes. “AH! AH! There’s eyes! And they’re alive!” She said as she fell on her toosh and crawled away. “SAVE ME WORMHOLE JESUS.”
Avatar
Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 05:54 PM
"Something's alive?!" Paco yelled out as he quickly turned over to check in if she was okay. That is, before the door creaked and that noise echoed through the door. "OH PROPHETS THERE'S PEOPLE OUT THE DOOR!" Paco yelled out before instinct compelled him to push the door back shut. "No one's here!"
Avatar
Lt. Maggie Roode | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 05:58 PM
“What! No! We’re going out the door!” She said as she stood and ran towards the door, trying to open it.
Avatar
Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 06:01 PM
"Wait! We don't know if there's a walking version of that jar thing nearby, hold on!" Paco said as he kept the door shut and pressed his ear against it to at least try to listen to foot steps or weird... locomotion noises??? before they went on to opening it and running the hell out of here.

Lt. Maggie Roode | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 06:03 PM
“A walking big jar version of that jar thing? That’s ridiculous.” She said with a shake of her head. “Wait. Wasn’t Saren in the labs? Where’s he gone to!? Oh no! Is he dead?! How am I gonna tell Allan? Maybe email? That won’t be as awkward right?” (edited)

"Do our commbadges even work here??? Hold on, I think I have my tricorder with me. I was on my way there from the Social Science Labs when he called for help. You try calling Allan... if he's somehow around. I'll try scanning for anything outside of here..." And with that, Paco patted himself down and pulled out his tricorder as he attempted to do just that

“I don’t see why Allan would help us! He’s probably off on a date with Dion or something!” He said with a hum. “Oh wait! Why don’t I try calling Saren!” She said tapping her badge. [Comms] “Roode to tr’Lareth! Where are you?”

Both the commbadge, and the tricorder, did not work. How utterly, deeply, unfortunate...

"You brought him up!" Paco said with a shrug as he frantically pressed buttons and smacked his tricorder around... only to get nothing. "Tricorder's busted... okay so I guess we have no other choice but to go out the door.... should we bring the Jar thing with us? It probably knows this place better than we do." (edited)

"Alright! Not gunna argue on that, thought it would be a good idea. Let's just go!" Paco said as he opened the door and stuck his head out to see if there was anything outside before he actually stepped out.
Avatar
Lt. Maggie Roode | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 06:27 PM
Maggie turned to look at the eyeballs, Paco was probably right…. “Fine.” She said grabbing the jar and holding it like a baby. “Come on eyeball Jar, you might be helpful.”
Avatar
Narrator BOT 22-Nov-24 06:34 PM
Unsurprisingly and perhaps reassuringly, the eyeball jar stayed quiet and did not object to being taken. The corridor was quiet and empty. The walls had pieces crumbling off of them, which crunched uncomfortably under their boots. The overhead lights were dim, and flickered from time to time, buzzing like a dying fly yet stubbornly staying turned on.

"So far. I'm just assuming this is one of those things where some life form out there makes Starfleet people mysteriously 'disappear' and ploops them in a testing chamber to experiment on them or something and either brings them back with no memory or replaces them with an imposter. I think that happened to the Enterprise-D once." Paco thought as he led the way through the corridor, feeling extremely uncomfortable from what he was sensing under his boots. Normally feeling something crunch under footsteps was quite nice, but this was different. "At least you and the Jar are getting along, surprised you warmed up to it so quickly."

The lights flickered again, clicking ominously as if something was stuck in the lamp.

She looked up. “That’s not great. Okay uh, another question! Do you think the room is sentient? I’m just spit balling but I’m kinda getting that vibe.”
Avatar
Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 06:59 PM
"Maybe?? I kinda want to take that light off and screw it back in... see if that makes the flickering stop at least. If it is sentient, it would probably like that, in a pain relief sort of way... I dunno, seems like everything's watching us." Paco shrugged with a sigh as he grabbed the nearest object that could help get him a boost up, if present, and tried reached over to the lamp to unscrew it and screw it back in.
Avatar
Lt. Maggie Roode | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 07:02 PM
Maggie put the jar down and kneeled down to lift Paco up. “Here I’ll give you a boost!” She said with a nod.

"Alright, thanks." Paco said with a nod as he took up the boost, because he is very much a little short king.

The light could be easily taken off. As soon as Paco did that, a dead moth fell out of it, singed, burnt.
Avatar
Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 07:30 PM
"Oh no... a dead moth..." Paco said quietly as he screwed the light back in. If that didn't work to make the flickering stop. He would seriously throw the bulb to the ground if it didn't. That aside, he did feel pretty bad for the moth, Saren likes bugs. He would also be sad about a dead Moth. "We probably should keep going..." Paco said as he stepped down, bringing the moth with him, at least until he finds a better place to put the dead moth down.
Avatar
Lt. Maggie Roode | SCI BOT 22-Nov-24 07:33 PM
Maggie looked at the moth with a sad nod. “Yeah, let’s get going.” She said with a shake of the head and moving on, poor moth.

The light flickered, blinked, and then died with a loud, crackling pop, submerging the two souls in complete darkness. It stayed that way for one, two, three long heartbeats, before flickering back on again. In front of them, at the end of the corridor, towered a figure, it's features obstructed in darkness - the dim light only barely reaching the curly crown of their head and the glisten of their eyes. It stood there motionless, imposing,,, before taking a long, soundless step to the left, disappearing behind the corner.

Paco yelled out as he followed Maggie and tried to stop her. "I tried stopping Renakir once when he was possessed by the Hobus Pocus ghost thing during the Science Fair stuff! ROMULANS ARE BUILT DIFFERENT!" And then he heard the footsteps... BEHIND them this time "I forgot Mo's short! That's definitely Saren, and he's probably on some scary space shit we can't science right at the moment! We have to get moving! NOW!"

“Yeah, bit of a weird fog. Do we know who delivered it. Oooh, also! Are we still physically on the station? That’s a good question. Are we on drugs? Are we secretly looking like insane people in Authentic Romulan Affairs?” She said, before looking back at Saren and Evoras. “Oh, sorry for rambling.”

"Eyeo guided us to safety. Hooray for Eyeo!" Paco said, very tiredly from a distance. "...I found the moth and thought of you... I thought you were the Moth at one point, or it was some symbolic narrative representation of you." Paco said sadly after he gave himself a shit ton of time to process his feelings and calm down as he walked back to the group. "Tricorders and Comms are down. And from the looks of it, either the scary fog was used as cover to teleport us away from the station somehow by some other being beyond our comprehension, or we are physically in the station, but the fog did something that shunted our consciousnesses to a different plane of existence that that appears like a scary horror flick.... like that time people from the Enterprise D got mysteriously kidnapped, experimented on, and plooped back without memory of what happened." *Paco suggested, also rambling a bit before he turned back to Saren. * "...at one point, I wanted to punch the thing as a flight or fight response, but since I assumed whatever that is was you... remembering the science fair, that wasn't a good idea..."

"I have a feeling that we're still on the station. I can't explain it, but... the layout of the rooms and corridors feels familiar. It all just looks... wrong. And now, there are these creatures roaming around..." he turned his head to look at the door again. "I don't know what they are. The silhouettes with beady eyes like to stare at you. I also could swear that I saw someone in a Starfleet uniform, but they, ah... lacked any features that are... usually normal for any species to have."

"Either we are unconscious and this whole thing is a mind trip and whoever set off the fog is trying to lobotomize us that way, or we are fully conscious the Fog twisted pretty much twisted how we perceive the station as a whole and those things somehow snuck in through the fog and are using that to their advantage in order to kill us...or replace us after killing us." *Paco also looked over to the door again. The image of some twisted creature in Starfleet uniform, plus the other one that was chasing them earlier did not do anything to settle his nerves. * "Assuming that we are actually still in the station. Maggie and I probably found ourselves in one of the biology labs at the start. There were tools and dead...... things(???) are in there- What I'm saying is, we could probably find the equivalent of the computer science labs here and find out that way because I don't feel like standing still for too long is a safe idea for long when those creatures are out and about, and we should eventually bump into something that could actually tell us what is going on, or where are we at least." *Paco took in a deep breath as he finished talking before he picked up Eyeo and held him up. *"And Eyeo is going to help us get out of here... somehow..."

"I'm unsure if the computer lab would help us. Hell, I'm not even sure where we are in the ring, if we're still here at all," he replied, tone gentle. "Did you try your tricorder? They don't work here, so it might be the case for most of the technology.. I will say though, before I found Chief, I discovered what seemed to be an entrance to the jeffrey's tube. I had to... use it as a hideout for a few minutes."

"If we are still on the station I doubt the matter of where we are will be the main problems for those looking for us. If we are not..." She trailed off and turned her head to the side to check on a movement she'd seen. It was just her hair. Their surroundings unsettled her more than she thought was reasonable. If anything she had been relatively fortunate so far, if the others' retellings were anything to go off of, but despite that something about this place just felt profoundly wrong.

"I will go last," he offered in a tone of voice that made it very clear that he wouldn't be taking no for an answer. "If I remember correctly, we can either move to the right side, or down. I'm unsure if the latter option will lead us anywhere - normally it would be medbay, but that might be sealed away - so perhaps the right side is the option here?"

Evoras nodded at Saren and turned to step into the Jeffrey's tubes. She did not frequent these, seeing as she had precisely no reason to be here unless something drastic happened, like a stationwide blackout or something. "Right it is."

Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 23-Nov-24 10:43 PM
"Where do you think the right side leads to?" Paco asked out of curiosity as he cradled Eyeo in his arms; he didn't trust the Jeffery's tube in general... "I can go second after you, Commander."

"Let's not kick the lab doors. And we do not yell, our senses are already compromised enough." She fought the urge to sigh and just raised an eyebrow instead. (edited)

Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 24-Nov-24 05:04 PM
"Sorry..." Paco said quietly as he looked around at the room he and Maggie started at... now with thiccer fog. "What if we used the drone to push the rest of this fog out the door? Like an exhaust fan. Then it could be easier for us to find where the source of the fog is" Paco suggested, with his inside voice this time. (edited)

The drone was barely flying as is. Don't push your luck.

Maggie nodded. “I don’t know, it looks like it’s struggling.” She said as she moved like a spy. “Drono is doing okay through!”

Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 24-Nov-24 05:12 PM
"Well dang... I guess the one of the safest ways without without visibly seeing a capsule in all this dank is by hearing the leaking noises or feeling for it somewhere." Paco suggested as he moved to where he thought the shelves were as he tried to listen carefully for any air gushing or chemical reaction noises, or somehow feel a gust of air. Surely physical contact with the fog couldn't do harm... right?

The taste of the fog still heavy on the back of their tongue, there was no way of knowing which way to go besides the little drone flying above like a beacon in the mist. There. Up ahead. Did something move, or was it your imagination..?
Avatar
Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 24-Nov-24 05:18 PM
"Wait... did anyone see that? or is it just me?" Paco asked as he looked. "Up ahead. Swore I saw something move.... or was it the fog drugs? We can only be somewhat certain that its the fog drugs, probably."

Narrator BOT 24-Nov-24 05:31 PM
Foghorn hovered near what was once a doorway but now was more of a hole, where the fog was so thick you'd be lucky to see anything but silhouettes. Unfortunately for everyone, it ducked directly into the #heart-of-the-fog.

Out of the holo-airlock and into the fray - or fog, rather. Reinforcements had arrived (all EV suited up and ready to not get hit with the worst acid trip ever,) so hopefully Maggie would not need to die. The team from the engineering hub were here! Upon stepping through the airlocked doors, Eicran surveyed whatever was happening right ahead.
